Welcome
I am a Brighton, UK based artist. A creative town full of artists and makers and enveloped in inspiration with its position on the South Coast of England with historical Regency buildings and the beauty of the South Downs as its backdrop.
I draw, paint and print - working in series and exploring each idea in various media - acrylic, oil, watercolour, charcoal and graphite.
Each year my style and materials may change a little as each idea leads onto the next and influences and experiences feed into my practice but hopefully I retain a recognisable style throughout each change.
I aim to create an atmosphere and elicit an emotional response from each piece of work. I am interested in the small moments…staring up at the sky and noticing a bird flying across the vastness, a flower being pushed by the breeze, the beauty in imperfection. Nature sending forth and taking back. Decay, transformation and rebirth and where we exist somewhere within these moments and our dialogue with our surroundings. I am a romantic and elements of mythology and poeticism will exist within my work. I enjoy the faded layers and scraping back through time to something half remembered.
This website is not exhaustive - it contains some of my main finished and framed work.. please visit my exhibitions or contact me to ask if other pieces in the series are available. I have sketches and other unframed works that I can provide images of if you particularly like anything you see here.
I work from my home studio and throughout the year take part in and organise exhibitions for both myself and other artists including Brighton Artists Open Houses, Chairing the Sussex Watercolour Society and associated exhibitions, organising Art at Danny House, Hurstpierpoint as part of the Hurst Festival and taking part in gallery exhibitions when invited..I have been a finalist in the Sunday Times Watercolour exhibition, a finalist in the Sussex Life Landscape Artist of the Year and exhibited with the Drawing Society at the Mall Galleries, London and various galleries in the UK.
I paint and draw because I love it and enjoy the process of developing an idea and understanding the materials needed to create the final pieces.
